"Playing in natural spaces supports a child’s sense of self, allowing children to recognize their independence alongside an interdependence and connectedness with their ecological worlds."
Stuart Lester and Martin Maudsley
Kassandra found her passion for the outdoors at an early age while growing up beside the ocean in Saint John, New Brunswick. She fondly remembers a childhood spent exploring backyard trails, kayaking and beachcombing with her three siblings from dawn to dusk. This love of exploration continues today and you can often find Kassandra on various hiking trails in New Brunswick or kayaking along the beautiful Saint John River where she lives with her family and enjoys spending time with her niece and nephew.
Kassandra joined the Tír na nÓg team as a volunteer in 2019 and become a permanent part of the team on a part-time basis in 2020. Kassandra’s love for volunteering started when she was the assistant coach for the Kennebecasis Valley High School Junior Varsity Basketball team, followed by volunteering for the KV varsity soccer team. During this time, her passion for guiding and motivating individuals to do their best while constantly improving was ignited and when she became a student at UNBSJ, she volunteered for The Promise Partnership program. This program is a tutoring initiative that provides educational encouragement and exceptional opportunities to youth in two of Saint John’s priority neighborhoods. This program has inspired Kassandra to continue working with children and she is excited for the opportunity to join an incredible team of educators this summer before returning to her studies in the fall.
