Raeanne Dunn

Head of School

“The best classroom and the richest classroom is roofed only by the sky.”

~Margaret McMillan

Raeanne grew up in Rothesay, New Brunswick, where she spent her childhood on the banks of the Kennebecasis River, swimming in the summer and ice fishing for smelt in the winter. This connection to nature and the pull of a small-town feel brought Raeanne and her family back home to New Brunswick after many years abroad.

Following her graduation from USBSJ with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Raeanne went on to the University of Maine, where she earned her BEd. With two degrees in hand, Raeanne skipped across the pond to the United Kingdom, where she settled in to begin her teaching career, raise her family and continue her post-graduate education.

It was during this time in the UK that Raeanne’s interest in Forest School was ignited. While attending a conference on the innovative approach to education in Scandinavia, she learned about a holistic, child-directed, emergent approach to teaching. This experience inspired Raeanne, who was now the Principal of an Elementary School, to begin training as a Forest School Practitioner along with her teachers. Raeanne and her team quickly incorporated Forest School pedagogy into the K-5 curriculum, and Raeanne continued to encourage her teaching staff to focus on the holistic development of children through an initiative she led called “Beyond the Classroom Walls.”

Raeanne continued to share her wealth of knowledge when she moved to the Middle East and accepted a position as the Director of Curriculum and Teaching with Qatar’s Early Childhood Education Sector. In addition to this, Raeanne held the position of College Lecturer in Early Childhood Education and Electronic Screen Syndrome.

After many years and an incredible journey, Raeanne and her husband Nick decided it was time to make their way back to New Brunswick, where their children could experience the magic and charm of growing up in a small community where they have roots.

Raeanne is delighted to be a part of the Tír na nÓg team, where she can share her leadership experience while at the same time making mud pies and building bug hotels with the children!
